Use Your Fans

A great way to cut down on cooling costs is by using fans. Ceiling fans are a great way to circulate cool air around your home. You can also cool down the rooms in your home with portable fans. Having a few of these around the home is a great way to lessen your reliability on your air conditioner.

Clean or Replace Your Air Conditioning Filters

Changing your air filters is a must! According to the Department of Energy, replacing your dirty air filter can reduce your energy consumption as much as 15%! Ideally, you should change your air filters at least once every 3 months. A dirty air filter can make your AC unit work harder. If you notice that your air filter is getting dirty, make sure you replace it as soon as possible. This will help decrease your energy bill tremendously.

Use Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

Energy efficient light bulbs use less energy, and they also produce 75% less heat than regular light bulbs. When you aren’t in the room, make sure you flick off the switches. During the day, try leaving the lights off and using the natural sunlight to keep your home bright. Just by turning off your lights when you are not in the room can have a significant impact when it comes to lowering your energy bill.

Cook on an Outdoor Grill

Trying to cook inside during the summer heat can be unbearable! To counter this, try to use your outdoor grill as much as possible. The indoor stove or oven can raise the temperature of your kitchen up to 10 degrees! If you can’t cook outside, use a microwave oven when possible to help keep the temperature inside your home in check.

Little things can add up, that is why doing simple things to save energy can make a huge difference on how to save money on your electric bill.
